40 prosecutors for terror cases

AMBON, Maluku: The Maluku Prosecutor's Office has prepared at least 40 prosecutors to deal with various terror-related cases in the province.

Head of the Prosecutor Office's investigative team, Elsi Demas, said on Wednesday that if 40 prosecutors were not enough to deal with all the cases, more prosecutors could be assigned from outside the province.

Among the cases to be prosecuted will be the recent attack on a Mobile Brigade unit post on Lokki island that killed seven people, and a grenade explosion in Batumerah village, Ambon in which 19 people were injured.

Elsi said many of the case dossiers were still with the police. "The police have conducted reenactments of the cases and we are preparing teams of prosecutors to deal with them," he said, adding that five or six prosecutors would be assigned to each case. -- JP
