4-year jail term sought for director

TANGERANG (JP): A prosecutor asked the Tangerang district court on Thursday to sentence a company director to four years in prison for counterfeiting a letter of authority to win a land dispute lawsuit in Jatake, Pagedangan district of Tangerang.

Prosecutor Nellita Ariany said the defendant, Januar Mandala Jafar, director of sand mining company PT Arha Putry Piranty, claimed to have bought some 15 hectares of land and had obtained certificates of ownership from the Tangerang Land Agency.

She said several heirs of the 55 original owners of the land said that their parents had only sold the rights for land use to Januar's company.

Nellita said that Januar falsified a warrant letter from the heirs, claiming that they had sold the land to him through a land broker.(41)
