382 gamblers arrested

JAKARTA (JP): A special team rounded up 382 people, including 75 women and two Armed Forces members, in a raid Saturday on an illicit gambling den on Jl. Asemka in Glodok, West Jakarta.

The raid was carried out by a military team consisting of 75 personnel from the city's Coordination and Support for the Development of National Stability Agency.

The team confiscated gambling paraphernalia and Rp 23 million in cash, said Jakarta Military Command Spokesman Lt. Col. Didi Supandi in a written statement on Sunday.

It was the second operation conducted by the military this year. At the first crackdown on a gambling den in Mangga Besar earlier this month, the military arrested 331 men and women and confiscated Rp 45 million in cash.

The military said it would turn the detainees over to the City Police. (sur)
