38 heroin users arrested

JAKARTA (JP): The City Police have arrested 38 heroin users over the past three months.

Spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said Thursday that three of them were foreigners; he identified them by their initials as RN, 30, from Nigeria, TM, 35, from Zimbabwe and IM, 27, from Benin.

RN was caught with 1.3 kilogram of heroin while TM and IM were arrested for possessing 277 grams.

"The police will tighten supervision of foreigners, especially Africans," Aritonang said as quoted by Antara.

The police have predicted that drug use in Indonesia will rise because the country is no longer a transit spot but has become a destination for international drug syndicates, he said.
