36 firms join telecoms expo

JAKARTA (JP): Thirty-six telecommunications-related companies began a four-day exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Hall here on Thursday.

According to Deddy Hermawan, chairman of the organizing committee, participants in the exhibition that concludes on Sunday, include state-owned companies PT Telkom and PT Indosat, fiber optic producer PT Siemen Kabel Optik, and digital radio service PT Worldspace Indonesia.

At the expo, Telkom displays Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) equipment which enables users to make long distance calls or fax data through the Internet with local charge.

While Indosat introduces its global system on mobile communication (GSM) service, which will be officially launched in August, this year. (05)
