34 UGM students receive scholarships

YOGYAKARTA: At least 34 students of the Yogyakarta-based Gadjah
Mada University (UGM) received Rp 1.2 million each in
scholarships for the 2001-2002 academic year from PT Indocement
Tunggal Prakarsa.

The scholarships amounting to Rp 40.8 million in total were
handed over to Deputy UGM Rector Bambang Kartika by Indocement
personnel department head Riwan H.R. Noor.

Riwan said UGM was one of 15 state-run and private
universities his cement firm was providing scholarships for.

Kartika said around 9,800 of the 34,000 students at UGM were
badly in need of scholarships to continue their studies. --JP
