300 workers continue strike

JAKARTA (JP): Some 300 garment factory workers from PT Centra Busana Jaya Persada on Jl. Cilincing in North Jakarta continued their strike yesterday, demanding minimum wages and welfare improvement.

Zarkowi, a workers' representative, said that the workers -- currently receiving Rp 3,000 (US$1.27) a day -- are demanding Rp 5,200, as regulated by the government.

"We will continue to strike until they fulfill our demands," he said. He added that the workers have been on strike since Friday.

The company's personnel manager, Rosiana Wirawan, could not be reached for comment.

However, Wati, an officer of the company, said the case is being discussed by the Ministry of Manpower. (jun)
