300 golfers take part in Trisakti Open golf tourney
JAKARTA (JP): Some 300 golfers are expected to take part in the Trisakti Open golf tournament on Nov. 21 at the Padang Golf Course, Pondok Indah.
Organizer Justian Suhandinata said Friday that the one-day tournament will be held to commemorate Heroes Day (Nov. 10) and Trisakti University's 32nd anniversary.
The golfers will compete for three trophies and prizes of three cars for those who can make a hole in one at one of three holes. The trophies are from the State Minister of Public Housing Akbar Tandjung, Minister of Transmigration Siswono Yudohusodo and State Minister for Women's Roles Mien Sugandhi.
The Akbar Tandjung trophy will be given to the winner of the men's best gross over all. The Mien Sugandhi trophy for the women's best gross over all. The Siswono Yudohusodo trophy for the best net over all.
A number of other trophies will be presented to winners of the men's and women's flight A, B, C, to the men's and women's nearest to the pin, and longest drive events.
The three cars are a Mercedes Benz E 230 for the hole in one at hole 12, a Bimantara Nenggala at hole 17 and a Bimantara Cakra at hole 5.
The tournament is being held by the Association of Trisakti Alumni (Ikasakti) in cooperation with the Bima Tangkas Bakti Sport Center (BTSBC).
Justian said Ikasakti chose golf for their tournament because it was considered a potential sport to obtain funds.
"Even though Indonesia's economic situation is unstable, the tournament will go ahead. The proceeds received from the tournament will be used for social activities such as alleviating poverty in Irian Jaya," Justian said.
The tournament will be divided into two periods, 6 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Justian said invitations are being sold for Rp 500,000 each.
"This amount is considered small for the golfers because it includes refreshments. We chose Friday (Nov. 21) because it is cheaper for renting the golf course compared to weekends, when it costs Rp 80 million," Justian said.
For the past 10 years, BTSBC has contributed in producing national badminton players, including Ade Chandra, Taty Sumirah, Regina Masli, Poppy Tumengkol, Icuk Sugiarto, Joko Supriyanto, Ricky Subagdja, Rexy Mainaky, Hermawan Susanto, Meiluawati, Elliza and Marleve Mainkay.
"Most of the badminton players are included in the world rankings. We have provided all the facilities required to the shuttlers," said Rismunanto of BTSBC. (lnt)
