30 officers attack entertainment center

JAKARTA (JP): About 20 police officers from the Mobile Brigade attacked the Taman Topi entertainment center in Bogor, seriously injuring two people and wounding four others.

Bogor Police chief, Sr. Comr. Taufik Ridha, accompanied by the commander of the Kedunghalang Mobile Brigade, Sr. Comr. Sujitno, confirmed the incident.

Taufik told reporters that the police were investigating five Mobile Brigade members who were allegedly involved in the case. They would be taken to court if there was strong evidence of their involvement, Antara reported.

Expressing his concerns over the attack, Taufik apologized to the victims and promised to cover their medical fees.

Sujitno said that the incident happened following the assault of a Mobile Brigade member at the entertainment center on June 14. The Mobile Brigade member was assaulted by a group of people and was still in hospital, he said.

He said that the 20 officers went to the entertainment spot, perhaps saw the people who hit their colleague and immediately took revenge by attacking them, he said.

But whatever the reason was, they should not have done that, he added,

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said that the incident happened because some hoodlums in the entertainment center had asked for money from a family member of the Mobile Brigade officer.

The entertainment center is located just in front of Bogor Police headquarters.
