30 houses razed in Tambora

JAKARTA (JP): Fire razed at least 30 houses in the densely populated area of Jembatan Besi subdistrict in Tambora district, West Jakarta, on Monday.

No fatalities were reported, state news agency Antara reported.

Gani Hamid, head of the subdistrict, said the fire started in a house at 2:10 p.m and spread to other houses.

Sutaryo, a local resident said the fire originated in a house owned by Effendy, located on Jl. Jembatan Besi.

The 52-year-old Sutaryo also said the fire razed houses behind Effendy's house, bringing the number of houses destroyed to 32.

The fire brigade succeeded in extinguishing the fire after it deployed 11 fire trucks to the area. (asa)
