30 houses damaged by strong winds

MEDAN, North Sumatra: A girl was injured and at least 30 houses were damaged when strong winds hit Percut Sei Tuan Psr V Tembung in North Sumatra's Deli Serdang regency on Tuesday.

No casualties reported but parts of Nurul Hasanah elementary school was badly damaged by the winds, which hit the village at around 3 p.m.

Chief of Percut Sei Tuan police, First Adj. Comr. Murthada said the nine-year-old girl, Desi, suffered a head injury when parts of the school building collapsed as she was playing in the school area.

"The winds also damaged people's houses, some are badly damaged, others are lightly damaged. But there were no fatalities," Murthada told The Jakarta Post. -- JP
