JAKARTA: City police arrested three members of a syndicate specializing in smuggling cellular phones and seizeed hundreds of the units early this week.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Tjiptono said the cellular phones had been smuggled from Singapore and distributed to several shops in Jakarta.

"They are various models of new cell phones. The phones are much cheaper in Singapore. The smugglers can get between Rp 700,000 and Rp 1 million per unit," he said.
