28,000 foreign workers in Jakarta

JAKARTA: Head of the Jakarta Population Agency has been carrying out impromptu visits to private companies to check the number of foreign workers in the capital.

Head of the agency Sylviana Murni said on Tuesday that the program, which started this week, will last for five weeks.

She said that the number of foreign workers who had registered at her office this year reached some 28,000 people.

"We want to check whether the number is really 28,000 or more," she said.

Sylviana believes that there are still many foreign workers who have not registered their presence in the city and therefore calls upon them to immediately register themselves at her office.--JP
