280 illegal workers arrive back home

SEMARANG: Some 280 illegal migrant workers arrived back in Semarang's Tanjung Emas Port from Malaysia on board navy ship KRI Tanjung Nusanive on Thursday evening.

The ship was carrying a total of around 2,000 illegal migrant workers, with the remainder coming from East Java and West Java.

One of the workers, 38-year-old Siti Janatin, had to be taken to the Dr. Kariadi Hospital in Semarang after suffering a stroke.

After reporting to immigration and manpower officials, the workers were given Rp 25,000 (US$2.78) in transportation money to pay for their fares back to their hometowns. -- JP
