2,500 chickens for the poor

BOGOR (JP): Mayor Eddy Gunardi presented 2,500 chickens at the weekend to 500 low-income families to breed.

The act was part of the administration's campaign aimed at improving the mayoralty's food sufficiency. Each recipient will get a rooster and four hens.

The mayor symbolically presented chickens to eight families in the western suburb of Balumbang Jaya.

Chief of the mayoralty husbandry office Didi Aswadi said the administration would assign officials to provide training in poultry breeding.

He said the chickens would be raised under a semi-intensive method, with each hen expected to produce about 92 eggs a year. (24/ivy)
