250 supervisors for Day of Sacrifice

JAKARTA (JP): The city administration will send 200 university students and 50 veterinarians to check the health of animals to be slaughtered on the Islamic day of Sacrifice on April 18.

Sumitro, the head of the City's Animal Husbandry Agency, said yesterday that the husbandry agency's officials would also be involved in checking the animals.

"We want people to eat good quality meat," Sumitro said, adding that the slaughtering of the animals should be done correctly.

He said the city needed 60,000 goats and 3,400 cows and buffaloes this year.

Goats cost between Rp 175,000 and Rp 350,000 each. The price of buffaloes and cows is determined by their weight.

If a buffalo weighs 200 kilograms, it will cost 200 times between Rp 4,8000 and Rp 5,000.

Those who want more information about the slaughtering services should contact the Central Jakarta Animal Husbandry Office (3440610), North Jakarta office (4301124), East Jakarta office (8194019), and South Jakarta office (7206149). (sur/ste)
