250 RI workers repatriated from KL

PEKANBARU, Riau: Some 250 Indonesian workers have been repatriated from Malaysia through the nearby port of Dumai each week for the past two months.

Head of the Dumai immigration office, Taswem Tarib, said a ship docked in port at least once a week carrying hundreds of workers.

Dumai has become a transit port for illegal Indonesian workers deported from Malaysia.

"Soon the port will receive a large scale deportation, but we don't know exactly when it will happen," Taswem said as quoted by Antara.

The Malaysian government is currently cracking down on illegal foreign workers.

The governments of Indonesian and Malaysian have agreed to cooperate over the repatriation of 17,000 illegal Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia.
