24,819 police promoted

JAKARTA: National Police Chief Lt. Gen. Dibyo Widodo led a promotions ceremony here yesterday for more than 24,800 personnel across the country.

About 100 police represented their colleagues at the ceremony.

Of the 24,819 officers promoted, 61 became colonels, 162 lieutenant colonels, 567 majors, 960 first lieutenants and the rest rose through the enlisted ranks.

The National Police information department chief, Lt. Col. Bambang Haryoko, said yesterday the 24,819 officers had been promoted according to the police principle of fair treatment to all officers.

"The police principle is to reward officers who performed their duties well and to impose firm sanction on those who violate regulations," said Bambang, who was promoted to colonel yesterday. (04)
