24 new police stations set up for public service
JAKARTA (JP): City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata has inaugurated the operation of 24 new police stations in the Greater Jakarta area to meet the increasing needs of the public for police services.
Spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna said on Tuesday that all of the new police stations, which began operations this week, were funded by residents and business circles around the area.
"We deploy our personnel -- ranging between five and 12 officers at each station -- and standard devices required in order to be able to provide immediate police services to the public," Iman said.
According to Iman, there are five new police stations, locally referred to as Pospol, in Central Jakarta.
The Juanda Pospol is located on Jl. Juanda, Krekot on Jl. Sukarjo Wiryopranoto, Monas Timur on Jl. Monas Tenggara, Sawah Besar on Jl. Mangga Dua Selatan and the Jayakarta Pospol on Jl. Pangeran Jakarta.
In North Jakarta, two new police stations, the Simpang Lima and Muara Baru Pospol, are respectively located on Jl. Plumpang in Semper and Jl. Muara Baru in Penjaringan.
In East Jakarta, there are two newly operating police stations: the Buaran Pospol on Jl. Ngurah Rai and the Pondok Kopi station on Jl. Raya Pondok Kopi.
In South Jakarta, there are two new Pospol: the Pejaten Barat station on Jl. Kemang Bangka and Cirende on Jl. Raya Cirende.
In West Jakarta, three new stations have just begun operations.
There is the Jatipulo station on Jl. Tomang Raya, Kalideres on Jl. Lingkar III in Tegal Alur and Pajak at the Tax office building in Kemanggisan.
New stations have also opened in Tangerang, Depok and Bekasi, the three city outskirts supervised by the Jakarta Police.
In Tangerang, the two new buildings are the Tigaraksa Pospol at Desa Kaduagung in Tigaraksa and Bintaro at the Bintaro housing complex.
In Depok, three police stations have opened: the Proklamasi Pospol on Jl. Proklamasi in Depok II Tengah, Nusantara on Jl. Salak in Depok II and another at the Depok Terminal on Jl. Margonda Raya.
In Bekasi, there are four new police stations: the Lippo City Pospol at Desa Cibatulemah Abang, Mangunjaya at Desa Mangunjaya in Tambun, Jatibening at Desa Jatibening and Bintara station in the Bintara subdistrict.
Of the 24 new stations, only three have been equipped with telephones, Iman said.
"However, we'll soon develop and equip all standard devices at the new Pospol," he promised.
Currently, the capital -- home to around 13 million people -- has 169 Pospol.
Each Pospol is headed by a chief with the rank of senior sergeant or second lieutenant. He is accompanied by four to 11 officers, with most formerly serving as detectives or traffic police. They are assigned to guard areas such as housing complexes, factories and shopping and business complexes.
The police stations are supervised by respective police subprecincts, locally known as Polsek, which currently total around 50. These Polsek, headed by a major or captain, are under the supervision of the heads of the nine respective regional police precincts, locally called Polres, all of whom are supervised by the Jakarta City Police Headquarters.
