229 businessmen fail to pay tax

BOGOR: A total of 229 businesspeople in Bogor have not paid this year's land and building tax, amounting to Rp 7 billion.

Head of the Financial Management and Regional Budget Office Pery Suparman said on Tuesday that he had summoned them, but only 60 had appeared. They said they had been unable to make the payments in good time -- before July -- because of slow business and had asked for more time, to the end of the year, to make the payments.

Pery said his office had imposed fines amounting to as much as two percent per month for late payments.

By September this year, Bogor had collected Rp 41.6 billion in land and building tax, while the target was Rp 65.4 billion.

He predicted that by the end of the year, his office would have achieved only 75 percent of its target. --JP
