228 arrested in gambling den

JAKARTA (JP): More than 225 people were arrested last night when police raided an illicit gambling house on Jl. Mangga Besar No. 83 in West Jakarta.

The officers confiscated a total of Rp 45 million in cash from the shop/house cum gambling den.

The head detective of the Jakarta police, Col. Adang Rismanto, said yesterday that 157 of those arrested were found gambling, and 12 were believed to be working as operators and security guards.

"Thirty-three claimed to be visitors, 16 claimed to be food and cigarette vendors, while one claimed to be a money lender," Adang said.

"The gamblers, operators and employees will be prosecuted," he said. (sur)
