2,100 families in dispute with Army

BANDUNG: Over 2,100 families in Cibeunying Kidul and Kaler Bandung subdistricts, Bandung regency, West Java, are up in arms as the land they have occupied since the 1960s has suddenly been claimed by the Infantry Armament Unit of the Siliwangi Military Command.

"They have given us six months to leave the land," one of the residents, Anand, 60, told Commission A of the West Java legislative council in Bandung on Monday.

Anand explained that he had occupied the land which he inherited from his parents since 1957.

The residents had reported the case to various relevant institutions in Bandung last year but to no avail. (25)
