2,000 people in Tangerang malnourished

TANGERANG: Over 2,000 people in the Tangerang regency, most of them children under the age of five, are suffering from malnutrition, Regent Agus Djunara said on Saturday.

Agus said the local health agency had ordered the local government-owned hospital and all community health centers in the regency to provide free treatment, including medication, for all those suffering from malnutrition.

The state of Victoria in Australia used to donate milk and food to people in the regency, but the donations were stopped this year, Agus said.

The regent called upon non-governmental organizations to assist those suffering from malnutrition.

Cases of malnutrition have been found in the districts of Mauk, Sepatan, Cisoka, Pakuhaji, Kosambi, Rajeg, Teluknaga, Kronjo and Kresek. Most of these districts are located along the northern coast.-Antara
