200 families need relocating

PEKANBARU, Riau: About 200 families have to be moved because they live in areas that fall under the concession of oil company PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia.

Chief of the Tapung subdistrict Bachtiar Ismail said yesterday that almost all of the families in Kota Batak, 190 kilometers west of here, to be relocated are migrants from other provinces.

Bachtiar said the residents are mostly plantation workers. The company plans to build high voltage cables and piping systems through the areas.

"Some residents said they would stay and issue a statement saying that they would bear all possible consequences," Bachtiar was quoted as saying by Antara. (pan)
