20 councillors yet to return cars

TANGERANG: As many as 20 former Tangerang municipal councillors who were not reelected in the April 5 election have not returned their official cars.

"Only 15 councillors have returned their cars to the administration. The rest have promised to return them by the end of September," Aan Iqbal of the municipal administration said on Tuesday.

Forty-five new councillors, of which 11 had served in the previous tenure, were sworn in on Aug. 31. According to a Minister of Home Affairs' decree on council property, former council members are given 30 days to return the cars.

Tangerang Mayor Wahidin Halim said after the deadline the cars would be taken by force by public order officers. -- JP
