2 drug suspects die in the hospital

JAKARTA: Two drugs suspects in detention at an East Jakarta police station died on Saturday at the Soekanto Police Hospital, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.

Syahrawi, alias Awi, 34, a carpenter who lived in the former red-light district in Ciracas, East Jakarta, died at 11 a.m. on Saturday after being treated at the hospital because of illness.

Yusuf Hawu, a resident of Jatiasih, Bekasi, was also reportedly ill during his detention by East Jakarta Police. He was taken to the hospital later in the day and died there at 6 p.m.

Police did not reveal the illness either suspect had suffered.

The bodies of the suspects were later taken to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital morgue in Central Jakarta for autopsy. -- JP
