1,800 to attend fisheries event

NUSA DUA, Bali: Around 1,800 participants from many countries across the globe are expected to attend an international fisheries conference here.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono plans to open the three-day World Fisheries Cultivation Conference on Monday at the Bali International Convention Center in Nusa Dua, fisheries director- general at the Ministry of Maritime and Fisheries Fatuchri Sukadi announced here on Sunday.

He said the 1,800 participants would include 600 Indonesians and 200 Americans, the biggest number of overseas delegates to the event.

"The participants do not represent their countries. They attend as individuals and cover their own transportation and accommodation costs," Fatuchri added.

He said the conference is aimed at sharing information and technological expertise in the fisheries cultivation sector.

"It's an international event. Through it the Indonesian participants will be able to communicate with foreign experts because the forum will include maritime cultivation training," he said. --Antara
