1,670 netted in citizenship operation

East Jakarta mayoralty administration announced yesterday that it netted 1,670 people, including 40 prostitutes, caught traveling without identification documents during a sweep late last week.

Suara Pembaruan daily reported that three out of the 1,670 people asked that the mayoralty administration send them to transmigration areas outside Java because they were tired of living as poor people in the city.

As for the prostitutes, the mayoralty administration has sent them to the rehabilitation center in Pondok Bambu, East Jakarta.

Zamris Dahlawis, the head the Mayoralty Population Office, said that the operation will continue in efforts to rid the mayoralty's streets of prostitutes.(03)
