164 TNI abuses in Aceh being probed

BANDA ACEH, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam: The military police have been investigating 164 violations allegedly involving soldiers during the year of martial law in the province.

Aceh Military Police Commander Lt. Col. C.M. Bakir said on Tuesday six officers had been found guilty and dismissed from the Military.

Bakir said the errant soldiers were court-martialled, rather than prosecuted in a public court, although their offenses affected civilians.

He added that during the first month of the state of civil emergency three soldiers had been found guilty of violating disciplinary codes.

Still outstanding are 24 cases involving military personnel, which are being investigated by the local military police. -- JP
