1,600 Ecstasy pills seized

JAMBI, Jambi: The police have seized 1,612 Ecstasy pills from a man they suspect ran a drug-dealing ring in the province, a press report said yesterday.

Antara reported the suspect the police identified only as EW, aged 53, was arrested on his way to a discotheque in a hotel here Sunday night.

The police believe the man imported the illegal drugs from the Netherlands because they also found several used KLM tickets in his possession.

"But this suspicion has yet to be proved in court," Jambi Police Chief Col. Priestewa said.

He said that when the suspect was stopped on his way to the discotheque, the police found 912 pills hidden in his briefs and the rest were found in his hotel room.

The suspect tried to bribe the officers with Rp 6.5 million (US$2,750) but the offer was turned down, he said. (pan)
