16 years in jail sought for Ongko

JAKARTA: Prosecutor Arnold Angkow asked the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday to sentence Kaharuddin Ongko, a suspect in the misuse of Bank Indonesia Liquidity Support Funds (BLBI) to 16 years in jail.

The prosecutor said that Ongko, the former deputy chief commissioner of Bank Umum Nasional (BUN), was charged with causing a loss of Rp 6.7 trillion to the state. He also asked the court to order the defendant to pay compensation of Rp 6.7 trillion for the loss, and to fine the defendant Rp 30 million or impose a six-month prison term in default.

The prosecutor also asked the court to sentence Leonard Tanubrata, the former president director of PT BUN, to 14 years in prison.--JP
