More than 15O lady golfers have confirmed their participation in the 25th Indonesia Ladies Amateur Open Golf Championships 2003 (ILAOGC) to be contested at Kenten golf club in Palembang, South Sumatra from Thursday to Saturday.
"We had to limit the event to 152 golfers to ease in running the event. Local golfers will also use this tournament as their testing field for the 2004 National Games to be held on this golf course," OC chairman Corry Pattiasina Rusdi said in a statement reached The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
The golfers hail from many parts of the country in addition to foreign players from Singapore and India.
Four categories will be contested in the three-day event: Individual Gross Event 54 holes, Individual Net Event 36 holes, Team Gross Event 36 holes and Team Net Event 36 holes.
A trophy will be given to winners in each of the events with the most prestigious trophy for the winner in the Individual Gross Event, the Srikandi Cup, and the Kartini Cup will be awarded to the winner in the Individual Net Event.
Last year's winner of the Srikandi Cup Sarah Handerson of Hong Kong will not defend the title she won as she is now playing as a pro golfer.
The par-72 5,580-yard Kenten golf club was established by the then top American oil company Stanvac in 1926 when it made Palembang its home base.
The course was also the host of the 1987 local amateur championship, formerly known as the Ibu Tien Soeharto Cup, but foreigners were not allowed to participate.
