15 parties fail to gain a seat

YOGYAKARTA: The outcome of the 2004 general election was a great disappointment to 15 of 24 political parties that ran in the April 5 election in Yogyakarta, as they were not allocated any seats on the provincial legislative council.

Most of the total 55 seats were taken by three large parties, namely the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) with 15 seats, the National Mandate Party (PAN) with 11 and the Golkar Party with eight seats, according to Yogyakarta General Elections Commission (KPUD) chairman Suparman Marzuki on Saturday. -- JP
