14 teenagers on trial for drugs

TANGERANG: Fourteen teenagers, mostly high school students, stood trial on Monday at the Tangerang District Court on drug charges.

Prosecutor Riama Sihite said the 14 defendants, along with five other teenagers, were arrested by police while purchasing marijuana from an alleged drug dealer called Topan, near Kuta Bumi market, Pasar Kemis district, Tangerang, in July.

The five other teenagers already have been sentenced to 18 months in jail each, while Topan is being tried at the same court.

Each of the teenagers was found with 0.5 grams of marijuana. The suspects said the drugs were for a weekend party.--JP
