132 students get scholarship
JAKARTA (JP): Scholarships worth Rp 6,465,000 were awarded to 132 students from low-income families yesterday by the Indonesian Moslem Intellectuals Association's (ICMI) Jakarta branch and the Ministry of Education and Culture.
An ICMI Jakarta branch official, Diding Zainuddin, said the students who won the scholarships were also selected for their good conduct.
"The reasons for presenting the scholarship to the students are not based on their personal talents or intellectual abilities," he stressed. "Scholarship grants for outstanding students have often been provided by other institutions."
Besides giving scholarships, ICMI was also offering moral guidance and advice to the students and their parents, Diding said.
"So we hope that they will not only stand out from their peers in terms of intelligence in pursuing their studies at school; they will also become individuals of good character and a high degree of morality and integrity," Diding said. (bas)
