131 vendors nabbed on operation

JAKARTA (JP): Central Jakarta's mayoralty officers netted 131 people during their disciplinary operation on Wednesday.

Central Jakarta Mayor Andi Subur Abdullah said the operation netted 54 street vendors who set up kiosks in public areas and 29 asongan (mobile street vendors).

The officers also caught 18 three-in-one juvenile jockeys and 30 others for littering, parking in prohibited areas and being unable to prove their identities.

Subur said the operation was the second in the past three weeks which has been held in conjunction with the mayoralty's campaign to restore orderliness in the area.

Andi said the violations were fined at least Rp 5,000 each. He warned the public that heavier sanctions might be imposed against any unlawful activities in the future. (06)
