13 years jail for Agus Isrok's accomplice

JAKARTA (JP): A prosecutor demanded on Monday that the Central Jakarta District Court sentence drug defendant Donny Hendrian, an alleged accomplice of Army Second. Lt. Agus Isrok, to 13 years in jail for possession and trafficking of both narcotic and psychotropic substances.

"The defendant has violated article 78 of the 1997 Law on Narcotics for possessing heroin," said prosecutor Ferry Mupahir, before a hearing at the district court, presided over by judge Hadi Lelana.

The article carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail and a maximum fine of Rp 500 million.

The prosecutor said the defendant had also violated article 59 of the 1997 Law on Psychotropic Substances for possessing and trafficking psychotropic substances, namely ecstasy pills and shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine).

The article carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in jail and a maximum fine of Rp 750 million.

Besides the jail sentence, the prosecutor also demanded the defendant pay a fine of Rp 200 million for his wrongdoing.

The prosecutor said the defendant was arrested along with Deky Setiawan, an alias of the Army's Special Force (Kopassus) member Second Lt. Agus Isrok on Aug. 8 last year.

Both people were arrested in a morning drug raid by the city police at Hotel Travel, located on Jl. Mangga Besar in West Jakarta.

The police, led by the chief of the West Jakarta Police, Col. Adjie Rustam Ramdja, seized items from room 408 of the hotel, including 1.6 kilograms of shabu-shabu, 6,218 ecstasy pills, 27.9 grams of heroin and 25 packets of Valium pills.

Agus Isrok, a son of former Army chief Gen. Subagyo Hadisiswoyo, will be tried at the military court.

Judge Hadi Lelana adjourned the hearing until next week to hear defense statements from Donny's lawyer. (asa)
