13 ambulances headed for regions

JAKARTA: Minister of Health Achmad Sujudi delivered 13 ambulances to regional administrations on Wednesday as part of efforts to promote health in the provinces.

Four of the ambulances went to the Jakarta-based Disaster Brigade (BSB). Health clinics in Surabaya, Bangkalan and Sampang in East Java, Papua, Brebes regency in Central Java, Bondowoso hospital in East Java, West Kalimantan and Sardjito Public Hospital in Yogyakarta, received one each.

The ambulances are intended to provide better services in case of an outbreak of epidemic disease, natural disaster, or emergency situations such as rioting, Sujudi said.

Only three of the ambulances are provided with sophisticated equipment, worth Rp 455 million each. They will be delivered to Cipto Mangunkusumo Public Hospital in Jakarta and Sardjito Public Hospital in Yogyakarta.

The rest are meant as regular ambulances worth around Rp 145 million each. --JP
