121 city officials brought under heel

Governor Surjadi Soedirdja announced that he has dismissed 19 city officials and sternly punished 102 others for various violations.

The governor made the announcement at a flag raising ceremony marking Independence Day at City Hall on Tuesday.

Of the 102 officials, at least 76 had their regular salary raises postponed and 25 had their promotions delayed.

Surjadi did not give the reasons behind the harsh punishments against the 121 officials, not did he mention their names. However, reliable sources at the governor's offices said the delinquent officials were probably involved in corruption or other kinds of abuses of power.

At the ceremony the governor presented the Satyalencana Karya Satya medals, the awards given to officials have been working for the city administration for 30 consecutive years, to 149 employees. (yns)
