120 street sweepers deployed on Jl. Thamrin

JAKARTA: Around 120 street sweepers were deployed by Menteng subdistrict sanitation unit to clean Jl. M.H. Thamrin, Central Jakarta, of the garbage left behind by the New Year's Eve celebrations.

"We worked from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. cleaning the street," said Suwanto, the street sweepers' supervisor, on Thursday.

He said that most of the garbage consisted of food wrappings, soft drink cans and paper trumpets.

"The garbage on Jl. Thamrin was less than that in the National Monument (Monas) Park, for which Gambir subdistrict is responsible," he said.

At least 130 street sweepers were deployed to clean up Monas park. However, as many people visited the park on Thursday morning, there was still a lot of garbage to be found in the area. -- Antara
