12 killed in bus crash

MEDAN, North Sumatra: A bus plunged into a deep ravine in Labuhanbatu regency, some 360 kilometer southeast of here, killing at least 12 people and injuring 14 others, Kompas reported yesterday.

The accident took place early Wednesday when a passenger bus speeding through the rain plunged into the eight-meter-deep ravine. Two of those who survived the accident were seriously injured.

Police officer S. Batubara said he suspected the driver lost control of the vehicle because he was too tired after driving from Riau. (swe)
