119 infected with anthrax in Sleman

YOGYAKARTA: A total of 119 people, or seventy-five percent of the 159 people surveyed recently in Hargobinangun subdistrict, Sleman regency, were found to have been infected with anthrax, a health official said on Wednesday.

But, Sleman health office director Sunartono said that the level of anthrax infections were still far from the danger level. Those affected had received medical treatment and all had recovered, said Sunartono.

The health office conducted the survey after it had earlier found that a number of cattle in the subdistrict had died of anthrax. -- Antara
