1,134 buses for Idul Fitri in Bogor

BOGOR, West Java (JP): The Bogor administration will provide 1,134 buses with seats for 94,195 people for Idul Fitri revelers, Bogor Mayor Eddy Gunardi has said.

There would be 607 large and 527 small buses, he said.

The peak time for people leaving Bogor for their hometowns was from Feb. 7 to Feb. 11 while from Feb. 14 to Feb. 17 would be the busiest time for people returning, he said.

Idul Fitri falls on Feb. 9 and 10.

The head of the Land Transportation Control Agency's Bogor Office, Endang Tabroni, said the number of people needing transport rose steadily each year. In 1994, 46,432 people used public transport for Idul Fitri trips. In 1995 the number was 50,959 and last year's figure was 57,527.

"This year we expect 69,033 people will use public transport during the Idul Fitri holidays," Endang said.

Endang said all buses would be thoroughly checked before they could leave the Baranangsiang terminal.

He said his office would deploy 50 officials to control the traffic "but we don't think traffic in Bogor will be bad during the holidays." (24/sur)
