11 killed in bus accident

BANDUNG: Eleven people were killed and seven others injured when a minibus plunged into a ravine in Salawu, Tasikmalaya yesterday morning.

A Tasikmalaya police officer told Antara by phone that the bus might have plunged into the ravine while traveling at high speed. The victims were immediately taken to the Tasikmalaya General Hospital.

Brig. Gen. Ansyar Roem, director of traffic affairs at the state police headquarters, warned that extra care was needed when traveling at this time of year.

About 26 million people will return to their hometowns to celebrate Idul Fitri. Most of them will travel by bus, he said. (mds)
