BOGOR (JP): Labor intensive projects, designed to temporarily provide work for jobless people during the economic crisis, have employed 102,000 workers, an official from the Bogor Mayoralty said yesterday.
"At least 1,700 workers have been employed daily," Hari Harsono, the mayoralty spokesman, said.
The project, which cost Rp 765 million, has dealt mainly with cleaning and repairing rivers and drains, constructing new roads and planting trees.
A new subdistrict office was also built under the auspices of the project in Situgede village, Bogor Barat district. "The new office provides subdistrict officers with a permanent office. They used to rent a house owned by a local resident," he added. (24/hhr)
