1,000 religious leaders to meet in Makassar

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: At least 13 ambassadors will attend a national meeting of religious leaders from throughout Indonesia, which is scheduled to take place from Jan. 14 to 15 in the South Sulawesi capital of Makassar.

President Megawati Soekarnoputri is slated to open the two-day meeting that will be attended by about 1,000 Muslim, Christian, Catholic, Hindu and Buddhist leaders.

South Sulawesi administration secretary Tjoneng Mallombasang said on Tuesday that each province was expected to send five participants.

The organizing committee of the meeting would provide facilities for journalists interested in covering the important event, he said.

Tjoneng said the Makassar chapter of state television company TVRI would broadcast the recorded version of the national meeting. -- Antara
