1,000 people donate blood

TANGERANG: About 1,000 people comprising students, employees, workers, housewives and others from all walks of life who live in and around the Lippo Karawaci housing complex donated blood on Thursday.

Chairman of the Tangerang regency chapter of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Utar Sunarya, said that his organization required 24,000 bags of blood every year.

These are supplied by the 6,000 donors who regularly donate their blood.

Sunarya said that 20 percent of the blood was supplied by the Lippo Karawaci Blood Donor Club (LKBDC).

The blood donation program is jointly organized by the club, the Red Cross and Siloam Gleneagle Hospital.

Tangerang Red Cross has received 1,800,000 cc of blood donated by the club members since 1996 through the regular blood donation programs held by the club quarterly since that year.--JP
