100 prostitutes rounded up

BOGOR (JP): Bogor regency's public order office has rounded up over 100 prostitutes in a series of operations along certain streets over the last three months, an official said.

Kusnadi, head of the office, said on Wednesday the prostitutes, aged between 20 years and 30 years, said they worked as prostitutes because it was hard to get other work.

"But some said that they did it because it was a hobby," he said.

Kusnadi said the educational backgrounds of the majority of the women ranged from elementary school to senior high school. The rest had no education at all.

Most were migrants from nearby cities, including Sukabumi, Cianjur, Rangkasbitung, Tangerang and Karawang, he said.

He explained that some were sent to the city's rehabilitation centers and some were immediately released. (24)
