10 years jail for raping own kid

MUARA TEWEH, Central Kalimantan (JP): Presiding Judge Sularso
of the Muara Teweh District Court sentenced a former rape convict
Jumbriadi to a 10-year jail term on Saturday for raping his own
child.

Antara reported that the defendant confessed to having raped
his daughter at least 20 times, as a prerequisite to "intensive
learning of black magic".

"I am supposed to rape my child 40 times to make myself
vanish," the defendant said in initial hearings.

The defendant, a former security officer, had formerly been
sentenced to a three-and-a-half-year jail term for raping his
step-child in 1996.

Sularso said the actions of the defendant toward his
underaged child were sadistic and that the defendant was a
disturbing element in the society.

Prosecutor Risman Tarihoran earlier charged the defendant with
Article 285 of the Criminal Code on rape.

The Article stipulates that whosoever forces a woman into
having sex out of wedlock, could face up to 12 years jail.

The witness to the sadistic acts was Jumbriadi's own wife,
Riyawati.

Riyawati and her child recounted in the initial hearings that
the repeated rapes occurred after Jumbriadi threatened to kill
the child with a sharp weapon if she made a noise. (ylt)
