10 named for PAN chairmanship

YOGYAKARTA (JP): The Yogyakarta chapter of the National Mandate Party (PAN) has proposed 10 people for the party's chairmanship.

These 10 would meet and select PAN's next chairman from among themselves when the party holds its congress here on Thursday.

The secretary of PAN's Yogyakarta chapter, Heroe Poerwadi, said here on Monday the 10 included incumbent chairman Amien Rais, secretary-general Faisal Basri and several executives and senior members of the party, including Abdullah Toha, Christianto Wibisono, Hatta Rajasa, AM Fatwa and Sindhunata.

"We don't want to have just one single candidate for the party's top leader," Heroe said.

The congress is expected to be attended by about 850 PAN delegates. Apart from the central executive board, each provincial and regency chapter will be allowed to send two delegates. (swa)
